Birthday Poem for my Father

Birthday Poem for my Father

He wants me to have everything,

But not by owning everything.

He said to accumulate wealth

By valuing what’s right, like love.

He encourages me to live,

Seeing mistakes as refinements.

He taught me to never give up.

Surrender is a state of mind.

He calculates by empathy,

Slipping on someone else’s shoes.

He tries to put on perspectives.

He always thinks ahead two moves.

From my Dad, I learnt how to shoot,

What to do in confrontations,

Who to keep close, where I should go,

When to speak, and why I ought to.

I'm feeling 58 but I was born in 1951 which makes me 61.

Your father must be so proud of you. This is a beautiful tribute to the man. "Surrender is a state of mind." That is wisdom if I ever heard it. It's so nice to see a son pay his respect to his father. God bless you both.
